How this site is built

For the curious. This is what runs under an event page for one Saturday in Slaton.

One file holds the facts

Every date, time, price, and radio frequency on this site lives in one file. The pages read from it. So do the flyer, the poster, the social images, the copy-and-paste posts, and the calendar file. Change a price once and it changes everywhere.

A wrong fact cannot ship

Before every deploy, a test suite builds the whole site and reads it back. It checks the date, the hours, the prices, and the frequency against the source sheet. It fails the build if a phone number shows up, if a car is ever described as parked next to an airplane, or if contest copy appears while the contest is switched off. When a test fails, the build stops and the site that was already live stays up.

The flyer is rendered, not redrawn

The letter flyer, the 11 by 17 poster, and the social cards are web pages printed to PDF and PNG by headless Chrome, from the same facts file. The build keeps a fingerprint of everything the flyer is made from. If the facts change and nobody re-rendered the flyer, the tests fail.

It knows when the day is over

At 6 AM Central on March 7, a scheduled job rebuilds the site. Every page switches to past tense, the countdown goes away, and the forms close. The same job runs on February 28 to take down the title sponsor offer once its deadline passes. Nobody has to remember to do either.

One switch for the contest

The EAA Chapter 19 spot landing contest sits behind a single flag. Turning it off removes the rules page, its menu link, its schedule row, and the pilot post in one deploy. The tests make sure nothing is left behind, down to the short link.

Fast, and nobody is tracking you

The pages are plain HTML served from Cloudflare's network. Photos go out as AVIF or WebP at the size your screen needs. Lighthouse on mobile, September 15, 2026: performance 99 to 100, accessibility 100, SEO 100. There are no cookies and no ad trackers. Form messages go to our own handler on Cloudflare and straight to the organizer's inbox, with no form service in between. Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies.

Print any page

Pages print clean: no menus, no photos behind the text, black on white. Try it on the pilot brief. View the source of any page for one more note.
